Virginia hoping to win now with inexperienced roster (AUDIO)

Virginia head coach Tony Bennett

The Virginia Cavaliers enter the 4th season of the Tony Bennett era after making the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007.  UVA posted a record of 22-10 last season, including a 9-7 record in conference play, before being bounced in the first round of the Big Dance by Florida.

The Cavs lost last year’s do-everything player Mike Scott to the NBA and have two returning starters, but have a roster that includes only three upperclassmen.  Among those returning are senior point guard Jontel Harris, who has played in every game during his career, and junior Joe Harris, who is currently leading the team with 14.8 points per game.

Virginia got off to a slow start with a 1-2 record, losing to George Mason and Delaware, but have since won seven straight contests to bring their record to 8-2, including wins over Wisconsin and Tennessee.  Junior forward Akil Mitchell has also helped pace the Cavaliers, averaging 13.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
