NC State hoping to live up to high expectations (AUDIO)

NC State head coach Mark Gottfried

NC State has spent most of the past two decades as the little brother to in-state rivals UNC and Duke, but all that may change this season.  The Wolfpack were picked as the favorites to win the ACC in head coach Mark Gottfried’s second season at the helm, and began the season ranked 6th nationally ahead of both the Tar Heels and the Blue Devils.

The Pack return four starters from last year’s squad that made a surprising Sweet 16 run including juniors C.J. Leslie, who was named the Preseason ACC Player of the Year, and guard Lorenzo Brown, who joined Leslie on the preseason All-ACC first team.  They are joined by a recruiting class with three McDonald’s All-Americans, led by Rodney Purvis, who was the Preseason ACC Freshman of the Year.

NC State has gotten off to a solid, though somewhat disappointing start to their season with a 5-2 record.  Their two losses have come in the Pack’s two toughest games against Oklahoma State and Michigan, but they did have a quality win over UConn in the Jimmy V Classic.

The Wolfpack have now dropped to #25 in the national polls, and have their next contest Saturday at home against Cleveland State.  To listen to the full NC State basketball profile, click on the link below.
