The SCHSL 3A state championship game between the Hartsville Rex Foxes and the Union County Yellow Jackets will be held at Williams-Brice Stadium at 6:30 on Saturday night. Hartsville is looking to win a title for the first time since winning back-to-back 4A state championships in 1987-1988, while Union County is looking to win their first title since 2002.
Hartsville is led by head coach Jeff Calabrese and are carrying a perfect record into Saturday night’s game. The Red Foxes have defeated Southside (54-0), Swansea (49-36), Socastee (40-14), and Strom Thurmond (20-10) on their way to the championship game. Unfortunately, coach Calabrese’s squad has had to deal with the death of player Ronald Rouse, who collapsed on the field during a game this season.
Union County is led by former USC quarterback and head coach Steve Taneyhill, and have had a terrific playoff run following a 6-5 regular season. The Yellow Jackets have beaten Wren (56-28), Greer (31-14), AC Flora (41-38), and Daniel (20-14) on their path to Williams-Brice.
Korn talked with both coaches about their matchup this weekend and looked back at their seasons.
