Spurrier says Gamecocks have injury issues this week (AUDIO)

Spurrier previews Clemson game

USC coach Steve Spurrier said on his Sunday conference call there are no definite additions to the major injury list for this week’s Clemson game, but there are a couple of major maybes.

Spurrier said quarterback Connor Shaw came out of the Wofford game with a gimpy foot and may not be able to practice until Wednesday.  And defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who sat out the Wofford game with ankle and knee issues, will also be a wait and see situation in practice this week.  Spurrier said he expected both players to do all they could do to get ready for the game.  And he said Bruce Ellington’s hand injury from Saturday shouldn’t be an issue this week.

Other notable quotes from Spurrier Sunday:

Said without a doubt  Clemson will be the best offense they’ve played against.

Referred to Clemson’s Death Valley and hopes they play better than they did when they went to the “other” Death Valley (LSU).

Said  he likes Swinney, “a wonderful guy, an excellent coach.”

Said every once in a while he and Swinney need to say things to stir up the rivalry.

Said they will be ready to play even if they are without some injured guys.

Said passing game is a concern, didn’t protect well yesterday, didn’t throw it down the field.

Said it’s maybe one of the biggest USC-Clemson game since he’s been at USC.

Said  he thinks the rivalry was overdone before he got to USC, too emphasized. Thinks that’s less now.
