Coastal Carolina, Wofford set for FCS playoffs

Joe Moglia is headed to playoffs in 1st season at Coastal

Coastal Carolina won its way into the FCS playoffs while Wofford Sunday was awarded with an at large selection.  The Chanticleers earned the automatic bid from the Big South as the league champion in a tie-breaker with Stony Brook and Liberty.  Wofford also was co-champion of the Southern Conference but Georgia Southern received the automatic bid.

Coastal will play this Saturday at MEAC champion Bethune-Cookman.  Coastal is 7-4  while BC is 9-2.  The game will be on ESPN3 at 2:00 PM.  The winner will play at #4 national seed Old Dominion December 1st.

Wofford will be off this weekend and will host New Hampshire December 1st at 2:00 PM on ESPN3.  The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face, most likely, #1 national seed North Dakota State which will await the winner on December 1st of this week’s game between South Dakota State and Eastern Illinois.

“We need the extra time,” Wofford coach Mike Ayers said.  ” We are beat up and hopefully we can get some guys back healthy to field the best football team that we are capable of fielding. We have a home game to open it up against New Hampshire. I could not tell you anything about New Hampshire as far as there football team. By the time we play them, we are going to know them and we are going to do everything we can to come up with a great football team that is prepared and motivated to go out and give it our best shot.”
