4th Quarter Recap: Big defensive plays save Gamecocks 24-7

USC’s defense saved the day against Wofford

USC continued the drive that started late in the third quarter that reached the Wofford five.  But the Gamecocks were stopped there and had to settle for a 23 yard Adam Yates field goal.  USC 10-7 with 11:57 to play.

The Gamecock defense then got another stop on a fourth and one from the Wofford 34.  The Terriers were held and the Gamecocks took over.  And they went quickly down the field for a touchdown, an 8 yard pass by Shaw to Ace Sanders.  USC 17-7 with 8:10 to play.

And the Gamecocks put the game away forty seconds later.  Akeem Auguste scooped up a fumble by Eric Breitenstein at the 31 and returned it for a touchdown and a 24-7 lead.

Wofford made one final run thanks to a 71 yard pass reception by Jeff Ashley to the USC 7.  But the Gamecocks stopped the Terriers on downs.

Final Score…USC 24-Wofford 7
