Goose Creek High School officials said this morning at a news conference they will look into legal action after the SCHSL executive committee twice last night voted to up hold the Gators disqualification from the 4A-D2 playoffs for using an ineligible player. School principal Jimmy Huskey said he will consult with an attorney today about options.
Huskey and coach Chuck Reedy provided details of the case at the news conference saying the school turned itself in after uncovering that the player in question had played four years of basketball prior to transferring to Goose Creek before this school year. The player, a special education student, played in just five games and 17 snaps this season according to Reedy.
Huskey said the school had a legal transcript that showed the student had played only three years of varsity sports and that’s what the school used for eligibility.
After the news conference, Huskey and Reedy left for a meeting with the lawyer. Some Goose Creek players also attended the news conference.
As it stands now, Conway, which lost last week to Goose Creek 48-7, will play tomorrow night at Bluffton.
