Weekend warriors from Saturday’s in-state football action

Coastal QB Aramis Hillary won Big South Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season

The second to last week of the FCS regular season proved to be an eventful and historic Saturday for some in-state schools.  Wofford needed overtime to defeat Chattanooga 16-13, clinching at least a share of the SoCon championship for the 4th time in school history, including the 3rd time in the past 5 years.  In Coastal’s 65-7 drubbing of rival Presbyterian, quarterback Aramis Hillary threw 5 touchdown passes, tying a Big South single game record.

Below is the list of other players from in-state schools who also had fantastic performances, accompanied by their individual statistics and team result.

Wofford (16-13 OT win over Chattanooga)

Furman (33-28 loss to Appalachian State)

Citadel (27-24 win over VMI)
QB Ben Dupree – 3/3, 49 yards, 14 carries, 45 yards, 1 TD
DT Derek Douglas – 4 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 FF, 1 FR returned 21 yards for TD (FCS National and SoCon Defensive Player of the Week)

Charleston Southern (28-10 win over Gardner Webb)
RB Teddy Allen – 16 carries, 107 yards, 1 TD
QB Malcolm Dixon – 7/10, 90 yards, 10 carries, 56 yards, 2 TDs

Presbyterian (65-7 loss to Coastal)
RB Lance Byrd – 14 carries, 87 yards
LB Isaiah Lynn – 10 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 INT
