Lower Richland out, Blue Ridge in in 3A playoffs

Blue Ridge High learned late Thursday afternoon that they are back in the AAA upper state playoffs, despite falling last week to Lower Richland, and will travel to Daniel Friday night.

Tigers head coach Wade Cooper told WSPA TV  that the South Carolina High School League informed him this afternoon that the Diamond Hornets were disqualified for using an ineligible player in last week’s 26-21 win at Blue Ridge.

By now getting credit for the win, the Tigers’ record improves to 10-1.

Daniel is 9-2 and, coincidentally, was forced to forfeit a regular season win at Palmetto after it was revealed the Lions used an ineligible player.

Cooper says the Tigers hadn’t practiced all week with their season apparently over. He and his staff planned meetings for tonight and will practice Friday before departing for the game.

For their part, Daniel spent the week getting ready for Lower Richland.

Daniel and Blue Ridge did not face each other during the regular season. The team last met in the 2008 AAA playoffs, a 42-7 Daniel win.
