The Blue Devils open the quarter with a quick scoring drive to get back into the game. Backup quarterback Brandon Connette drew in the defense with a fake handoff and lobbed a pass over the head of Rashard Hall to his tight end David Reeves for a 17 yard score. Clemson 28-17.
Clemson overcame a turnover on its next possession with another Boyd touchdown pass. Hopkins fumbled at the Duke 41 after a pass reception, but the Tiger defense forced a quick three and out. Boyd then led another scoring drive and this time he found Martavis Bryant for a 41 yard score. That was his fifth TD pass of the game tying the school record for touchdown passes in a half and a game. And it’s the third time in his career Boyd has had at least five touchdown passes in a game. Clemson 35-17.
Boyd capped off a phenomenal half on the Tigers’ last possession. He had a 30 yard pass to Watkins to reach the Duke 21, and on the next play he kept the ball on the option and ran in for a touchdown.
