USC prepped for its big SEC series at Arkansas this weekend with a 2-1 win over Davidson Wednesday night at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks, ranked as high as 3rd in this week’s polls, improved to 34-11 with their 7th straight win and their 10th in their last 11 games.
Five Gamecock pitchers scattered five hits. Forrest Koumas, who pitched the fifth inning after starter Joel Seddon went the first four, earned the victory in his first appearance since March 31st. Koumas has been battling an arm issue in recent weeks. He improves to 2-2 on the season.
Evan Beal, Tyler Webb and Matt Price also worked on the mound. Price hurled the final 1.1 innings striking out two and collecting his 6th save.

Davidson scored a run in the second to take a 1-0 lead. The Gamecocks tied the the game in the third. Tanner English led off with a bunt single and stole second. He went to third on a fly out to right field and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Evan Marzilli.

USC took the lead in the fourth. Joey Pankake led off with a walk and was sacrifced to second by Adam Matthews. Kyle Martin drove in the run with a double to right centerfield.
Davidson threatened in the fifth and eighth innings getting runners to first and second in both frames, but the Gamecocks were able to get out of those innings without giving up runs.

USC heads to Arkansas this weekend for a three game series. The Gamecocks will go into the series tied with Kentucky and LSU for the overall lead in the SEC with a 14-7 league mark.
