The NFL came down hard on the New Orleans Saints today. By now you’ve heard head coach Sean Payton has been suspended for year as part of the punishment for the team’s bounty program. Today the NFL also revealed the names of specific quarterbacks the Saints players targeted. One of those listed is none other than Panthers QB Cam Newton.
Newton of course was not injured in the game, but Saints defensive lineman Turk McBride was flagged for an illegal hit on the rookie signal caller. McBride was flagged when he went high on a blow to Newton in the game in Charlotte. You can check out the hit below and judge for yourself what you think the intent was.
Charlotte Observer reporter Joe Person points out the Saints were flagged for illegal hits on Newton three times last season.
The NFL is expected to hand down suspensions for the players in the near future. This could be a game changer in terms of the battle for the NFC South next season.

looked clean to me, but how many times has Mrs. Goddell fined or had flags thrown for legal hits?
the nfl should review game film for every game the saints played and any player seen taking a cheap shot, flagged or not, should be suspended for at least one year without pay. the whole team was aware of this criminal illegal activity and didn’t say anything to anyone – it was a win at any cost mentality. As far as I am concerned Sean Peyton should be banned for life from the nfl let him become a wal mart greeter.
Coming from a Panthers fan myself, how much more dirty can a team get? I thought Detroit and Pittsburgh were the dirty ones. I never would have thought New Orleans would have done this. I used to respect them, but because of everything they did, including targeting my favorite quarterback, Cam Newton, I have lost ALL respect for the Aints. And if people knew about this, including Drew Brees, they should have notified the NFL earlier that something was goin down. What a piece of crap team they are. They deserved MORE punishment than what they received.
I too am a panthers fan and later in the season I became a fan of Cam the Aints were going to win at any cost. After watching the replay it didn’t look clean to me – it was the type of hit that would have injured his neck putting him out of the game and possibly football. Cam is going to be the one to lead the panthers back to the super bowl, and i look forward to watching him play in the coming season.
Who dat say the shot calling for the Saints? Mere one year suspension for criminal negligence and tainting the game. Bravo, NFL.
