Westmoreland a winner for USC in first start of season (AUDIO)

Lefthander Adam Westmoreland, making his first start for USC since last Ma,  pitched 5.2 innings of four hit ball to get the victory in a 5-2 win over Charleston Southern Tuesday night at Carolina Stadium.   Westmoreland struck out four and walked one.  He threw 48 of his 73 pitches for strikes.

Five other pitchers worked out of the bullpen with freshman Joel Seddon getting the final out with a strikeout for his first save.

Tanner English led an 11 hit Gamecock offense with three base hits.  Erik Payne and LB Dantzler had two hits each.

The Gamecocks have won five in a row and will host Appalachian State Wednesday night.  Jordan Montgomery will start on the mound for USC.   USC is 14-1 and Appalachian State, which won two of three at LSU earlier this month and defeated Duke Tuesday night, is 14-2.
