CWS hero Williams leaves USC baseball team

Jake Williams will not be a part of the USC baseball team this season

Senior outfielder Jake Williams, a hero of USC’s College World Series championship last summer, has left the team and will not play this season according to GoGamecocks.com.

The website reported Williams is leaving the team for “personal reasons.”  Williams missed some January workouts for the same reason.  The report stated Williams was not dismissed from the team and will remain in school and graduate this May.

Williams batted .258 last season with 2 home runs and 38 RBIs splitting time between the outfield and designated hitter.  But he will be most remembered for throwing out the potential winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning of Game 1 of the CWS title series against Florida.  USC eventually won the game 2-1 and won the series the next night.
