Mike Bellamy poses with his hands full of $100 bills
Clemson signee Mike Bellamy has created a stir by posting this picture on his Facebook page. According to a report by Travis Sawchik Bellamy said the photo was a joke. The Clemson coaching staff reportedly asked him to remove the picture from his page.
It is unlikely Bellamy violated any NCAA rules here (no one is sure if it is even real money) but given the current climate in college football this was a pretty unwise move. Pitcures like this, especially in the social media age, are going to cause a lot of people to talk.
Bellamy has taken the picture down and posted the following apology:
Shout Out to all my friends and family! The picture that I posted earlier this morning of me holding stacks of cash, was just a case of a kid who never saw that much cash and being excited. That cash belonged to my Aunte’ who allowed me to take a stupid picture. To my family at CHS, in Nocatee, Orlando, and especially my new family at Clemson University, I am sorry for making this mistake. From now on I will let my play on the field, my hard work in the classroom, weight room, and locker room do all my talking! We straight…Speedy.
This isn’t the first time a Clemson recruit has caused a stir for posing with a pile of cash. Offensive lineman Kenneth Page did the same thing a few years ago. He later explained he was in the car with his uncle, who filled ATM machines for a living, and took the picture with the money.
Isn’t it very coincidental or should I say ironic that one player said the money belonged to his anute’ and the other said it belonged to his uncle. I’ll even go one further, all the banks that I know of have tellers fill ATM machines.
His Aunt let him take her cash to the High School weight room.
