Dorman OL Patrick Destefano has set May 23rd as the day he will release his short list. How many will be on that list he’s not sure. He does know of some of the schools that will make it but is not ready to say who they are. Destefano has 20 offers including Clemson, USC, Stanford, Tennessee, North Carolina, NC State, Arkansas, Florida State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Florida, Illinois and Michigan. Recruiters from Clemson, USC, Alabama, Michigan, NC State, Florida and Arkansas have been by and Tennessee is due in Monday. Destefano said with spring practice under way, recruiting has taken a back seat. “I’ve taken a step back and I’m trying to focus all my energy into spring ball,” he said. Destefano is not indicating favorites.
Allendale-Fairfax DB Ronald Geohaghan added another major offer Friday when Minnesota let him know its intentions. That’s his second Big 10 offer. He also has one from Illinois. Geohaghan now has 14 offers with Clemson, USC, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and Kentucky some of the others. He does not claim a favorite.
DE-OLB Patrick Jean (6-3 210) of Port Saint Lucie, FL has offers from South Florida, Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina, Purdue, Western Michigan and Florida Atlantic and is hearing from USC, Alabama and Michigan State. “I am interested in all schools,” Jean said. “I want to find a place where I will feel comfortable.” Jean is interested in USC and could visit this summer. “I want to visit there if I can,” he said. “I may wait (for football season) unless I decide to camp there this summer.” As for other visits, “I really don’t know,” he said. “I am just concentrating on getting better during spring practice.” Thus far, Alabama is the lone visitor this spring. Jean compiled 56 tackles, two sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries last season. He does not have a favorite.
Alabama recruiter Chris Rumph has a strong liking for Hemingway WR Jabril Solomon and is indicating he’ll be making an offer soon according to Tigers’ assistant coach Clay Owens. “Alabama could offer at anytime,” Owens said. “Coach Rumph plans to get back down to see him.” Rumph came by the school last month but it was during spring break so he missed Solomon on that trip. Solomon has offers from Clemson, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Nebraska, NC State and Wake Forest. Coaches from Clemson, USC, NC State, East Carolina and Coastal Carolina have been by. Clemson’s Danny Pearman was at the school for most of last Wednesday and the Tigers are in the drivers seat. “Clemson is really interested and that’s his favorite,” Owens said. “South Carolina likes him but is not sure where he will play.” Most recruiters like Solomon as a receiver because of his speed. This past weekend he won the 100 and 200 meters and anchored the winning 4X100 relay team in the 1A lower state track meet. Owens said this summer Solomon will visit Clemson, East Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest to get a better feel for each program.
6-8 Jared Guest of Richland Northeast and Charest Prep in North Carolina will make two official visits this week and then is expected to make his decision. He will go Monday to Oklahoma State and will follow that up with a visit to Minnesota. Tubby Smith just offered Guest the end of last week. VCU appears to be the only other program in the running for Guest at this point.
