The USC basketball team opens practice Friday with a lot of new faces dotting the roster. Seven new players have joined Darrin Horn’s program and all will get a chance to show what they can do.
The Gamecocks must replace one of their all time greats in guard Devan Downey. He averaged an SEC best 22.5 points per game last season. The Gamecocks also lose a double figure scorer in guard Brandis Raley-Ross, and of course, star forward Dominique Archie who missed almost all of last season with a knee injury.
Adding to Horn’s hurdles this season in trying to get to his first NCAA tournament at USC is a schedule which includes road stops at Michigan State, Ohio State and Western Kentucky, and home games with Clemson and Boston College. That’s on top of an always tough SEC schedule.
Horn met with the media Thursday to preview the season.
