The Braves beat the Mets 8-3 last night at Turner Field but it may have been a costly victory. Starting pitcher Kris Medlin left the game in the fifth inning because of pain in his pitching elbow. He is scheduled to have an MRI today.
Medlin on his injury
Braves skipper Bobby Cox said he didn’t think Medlin could have thrown another pitch and that something “popped” in his elbow. Medlin is 6-2 this season with a 3.68 ERA. If this injury is as bad as it appears, he will probably miss all of this season and quite possibly a good chunk of next year too. It would obviously be a big blow to the team.
The Phillies beat the Marlins again last night to stay within two games of the Braves in the N.L. East standings. Philly has won 11 of its past 13 games and will close out its series in Miami tonight.
The Braves will open a four game home series against San Francisco tonight. We have a great pitching matchup tonight with Giants ace Tim Lincecum on the mound facing the Braves Jaire Jurrjens. First pich is 7:10.
