Right now the class of the college baseball world isn’t USC, or Clemson but rather the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Some of you naysayers may knock the fact that they play in the less than powerful Big South and they have preyed on an easy schedule. I’m not going to get into a long rant defending the Chant’s conference or schedule but I will tell you that Boyds World has them ranked 6th in its latest RPI. Only Arizona State, Florida, Louisville, Virginia and Texas have a better RPI. Coastal has played against and knocked off some impressive teams this season.
As for the latest polls, Collegiate Baseball has Coastal Carolina ranked 4th this week. Texas is its number one team. Arizona State and Virginia round out the top three. USC is 7th in the poll. Clemson is 26th.
Baseball America has Coastal at number six this week. USC is 8th. Virginia is the top team in that poll. Texas, Arizona State, Florida and Florida state have spots two thru five.
Finally, in the USA Today coaches’ poll Coastal is 4th, USC is 12th and Clemson is 22nd. Texas is the number one team, followed by Arizona State, Virginia, the Chant’s and Florida.
