Here are a few notes as we get ready for another week of baseball across the Palmetto State:
Baseball America has Virginia as its top team and Collegiate baseball has Arizona State ranked number one.
Louisville Slugger has named Clemson lefty Casey Harman as one of its national players of the week. Harman pitched 7 1/3 near-perfect innings in Clemson’s 3-0 win over a hot-hitting Virginia Tech team. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning when he gave up a 2-out single up the middle. He allowed just one hit, no runs and 3 walks with 4 strikeouts to earn the win against a team that entered the game with a .354 batting average and was averaging over 9 runs per game. He did not allow a base runner past second base.
Clemson outfielder Kyle Parker is the ACC player of the week. Parker batted .471 with three home runs and 5 RBIs last week. Parker and the Tigers will play Elon tonight at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. First pitch is 6:30
Clemson has a huge weekend series at top ranked Virginia looming this weekend. It will be a chance for the Tigers to prove they are among the elite in the ACC and the country. A strong week will likely move them into the top five in every major poll.
USC pitcher Tyler Webb is the SEC freshman of the week. He earned his first career victory in the 4-0 win over Tennessee Sunday.
The Gamecocks have won ten straight games heading into tonight’s game at Georgia Southern. It will start at 7:00 in Statesboro. They will return to SEC action Friday at Auburn.
