Cross Coastal Carolina off the list of teams still alive in the postseason. The Chanticleers year ended Tuesday night with a 65-49 loss to UAB in the opening round of the NIT. The Chant’s were clearly outmatched and trailed the entire 40 minutes against the Blazers.
Cliff Ellis postgame interview
It looked like Coastal might have still been suffering from the hangover of a disappointing loss in the Big South Tournament final to Winthrop. That defeat, on their home floor no less, cost the Chant’s a trip to the NCAA Tournament. They dug themselves a hole in the first half and, despite playing better over the final 20 minutes, never had a chance in the second half.
The future is bright for Ellis and his Chanticleers though. The team won 28 games this year and should be a force in the Big South again next season. The core of the team will be back next season and they addition of former USC starter Mike Holmes to the roster should make them even stronger next year.
I’d expect Coastal to be the preseason pick to win the Big South next year and there is a better than slim chance we will see Ellis back in the NCAA tournament this time next year.
