For those that missed it (that would be all of us) USC senior wide receiver Moe Brown was arrested over the summer and charged with speeding, having no proof of insurance and he had a gun under the seat of his car. This news didn’t come out until today. It follows the rumos the Brown had an altercation with USC assitant coach Steve Spurrier Jr. following the Gamecocks loss to UConn in the PapaJohns.com bowl Saturday.
Brown released a statement through his lawyer late Wednesday afternoon.
This statement is made by Moe Brown through his attorney, Lowell E. Bernstein of Bernstein &
“In response to numerous media requests, on the morning of June 1, 2009, I was stopped for speeding. During the investigative stop, I voluntarily informed the police officer that I had a registered gun in the vehicle. I was twenty-one years of age and the legal and registered owner of the pistol. However, I had the gun under my seat and since it was not in the glove box at that time, I was charged with unlawful carrying. After a court hearing approximately one month later, the misdemeanor charge was dismissed and the matter was closed in my mind. This incident occurred during the Summer break and it was a private matter for my family and me.”
You know, I really think this is a non-story. Had we found out about this is June it may have mattered but now it seems like old news. He has gone through the legal process and it was a minor violation (in my mind) and lastly his career at USC is over. What he did in June seems moot at this point.
