USC went on a 19-6 run early in the second half to break open a tie game and went on to beat Furman 81-57 Monday night at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia. The game was tied for a fifth time at 30-30 when the Gamecocks started their run. The lead grew to as much as 25 points as the Gamecocks bounced back from their upset loss at Wofford Saturday night to beat the Paladins for the 11th straight time.

The Gamecocks once again played without Dominique Archie and Mike Holmes. Archie was declared out for the season Monday and will have knee surgery. Holmes remains sidelined with an eye injury. Devan Downey and Sam Muldrow led the Gamecocks with 16 points each. Downey also had eight assists and seven steals. The Gamecocks had 16 steals on the night and forced 24 turnovers which they coverted into 29 points. Freshmen Lakeem Jackson and Ramon Galloway each had career highs of 15 points. Jackson was 5-5 from the floor while Galloway was 4-7 on threes. Amu Saaka led Furman with 14 points.

The Gamecocks shot a blistering 64.5% in the second half and finished at 52.5% for the night. Furman shot 32.7%. The Paladins did out rebound the Gamecocks 36-31. Johndre Jefferson led the Gamecocks with seven boards.

USC improved to 8-3 and will be off until December 30th when it plays at Boston College. Furman drops to 5-5 with its fourth straight loss. The Paladins next will play December 28th in the Golden Bear Classic in Berkeley, CA against Cal-Santa Barbara.
