Christmas is just a few days away which means it is time for the preseason college baseball polls to hit the stands! Collegiate Baseball released its preseason poll today and it has Clemson and USC in its rankings. I know most of us are still trying to make the transition from football to basketball but the ping of the bat will be here before we know it!
Clemson is ranked 16th in the poll. It is the 22nd straight year that the Tigers have been ranked in one of the three major preseason polls. Last season the Tigers won 44 games and advanced to the Super Regional round of the NCAA tournament where they lost in Tempe to Arizona State. The Tigers are one of five ACC teams ranked in the poll.
USC is ranked 28th in the poll (the poll ranks the top 40 teams). The Gamecocks are coming of a 40 win season and lost in a Regional at East Carolina to end last season. Carolina is one of seven SEC teams ranked in the poll.
Coastal Carolina is the only other state team that is ranked. They are 17th.
Texas, LSU, Virginia, Cal State Fullerton and Arizona State are the top five teams.
The Gamecocks and the Tigers will open the season February 19th. Clemson will play a home game against Miami of Ohio and USC will play host to Duquesne.
