Clemson basketball coach Oliver Purnell has a new contract. Purnell has agreed to a two year extension that will give him a pay raise of about a quarter of a million dollars per season.
Purnell has led Clemson to the NCAA tournament in each of the past two seasons. Two years ago his team played for the ACC tournament title. According to reports his new contract will pay him about 1.35 million dollars next season.
After last season Purnell’s name was linked to some other coaching vacancies, most notably Alabama. This extension locks up the 56 year-old through the 2015-16 season and will make it much more difficult for another school to lure him away from Clemson.
